Human Resource practitioner, Dr Mrs Stella Agyenim Boateng has asked Ghanaians to eschew the notion that an assertive lady is arrogant.
She made this statement while commenting on the current state of feminism in Ghana which came under scrutiny after a disagreement between actor John Dumelo and journalist Nana Ama Agyemang.
Dr Mrs Boateng, who is a Human Resource Director at the Volta River Authority, told Franky 5 on ‘This Is Gospel’ on Hitz FM that the act of labelling women as haughty because of their assertiveness, is wrong.
“You want to support women to be more assertive. Being assertive is totally different from being arrogant. They are two different things,” she said.
The HR Practitioner, however, warned ladies against viewing feminism as anger directed at men due to systems created by society.
“Feminism has nothing to do with angry women. Feminism has nothing do with women who are not realistic about issues,” she stressed.
On the conflict between John Dumelo and Nana Ama Agyemang, she said there was nothing wrong with showing affection towards the opposite sex.
She was quick to add that this display of affection should not become an act of regarding women as ‘decorative pieces’.
The Human Resource Director believes that advocacies by feminist groups against such acts should not be overlooked.
Dr Mrs Stella Agyenim Boateng encouraged women in Ghana to aspire to greater heights in all fields including the political arena where women are sometimes victimised due to their gender.
