The Sekondi High Court in the Western region is this morning, hosting the launch of the Legal Year Term’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Week, which will be observed from today, 13th to Friday 17th November, 2023.

Being attended by Judges, lawyers, judicial officers, mediators and arbitrators, and court users, the event is on the theme, “Building the Pillars of Justice through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)”.

The objective for the ADR Week, which was declared last Friday by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, is to allow the ADR Directorate of the Judicial Service to promote public awareness about the availability of ADR mechanisms, particularly mediation, within the court system,

As part of the Week, 135 Courts comprising 35 Circuit Courts 100 District Courts across the country, shall participate by devoting the whole week for the settlement of Court cases using ADR.

The Director of ADR, Alex Nartey, in a statement, said the week-long celebration will also afford court users whose cases are pending before the courts, the benefit of opting for ADR to settle their cases.

ADR has been adopted by the Judicial Service of Ghana as part of its adjudication process Dubbed “Court-Connected ADR”. This programme aims to ensure that access to justice in Ghana is made easier, cheaper, non-adversarial, expeditious and flexible to all, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
