The 6th Annual Mediation Expedition organised by the Gamey and Gamey ADR Institute, has ended at the Aburi Botanical Gardens, with a renewed call for organisations and individuals to seek professional mediation services as an effective means of resolving disputes.
The three-day mediation camp, held under the theme, “Empowering leaders with mediation skills for sustainable futures,” brought together professionals from diverse fields and graduating cohort of the Gamey & Gamey ADR Institute for intensive simulation exercises and practical mediation sessions aimed at strengthening their skills for mediation practice.

Beyond the training component, participants also embarked on community engagement activities in Aburi, where they educated residents on the importance of mediation in addressing conflicts, particularly those related to business, land, family, and chieftaincy disputes.
The expedition, organised in collaboration with ADR Daily and HPW Fresh & Dry, forms part of the Institute’s ongoing efforts to promote professionalism in ADR practice and increase public awareness of mediation as a credible and peaceful alternative to litigation.

Among other exercises, the participants mediated a series of simulated business, labour, workplace, investment, managerial, governance, land, community and family disputes, showing their skills acquired through 31 weeks of training at the Gamey and Gamey ADR Institute.
Their successful participation in the mediation camp paves the way for their graduation and certification as ADR practitioners.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on Saturday, Mr. Austin A. Gamey, Chief Executive Officer of the Gamey and Gamey Group, commended the participants for their commitment and the acquisition of new knowledge in Appropriate Dispute Resolution (ADR).
He urged both corporate bodies and individuals to seek professional mediation services when confronted with disputes, rather than resorting to adversarial and costly court processes.

“Mediation promotes understanding, restores relationships, and produces lasting solutions. Every dispute can be resolved more effectively when handled by trained professionals,” Mr. Gamey noted.
Also addressing the participants, Dr. Samuel Mawusi Asafo, Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants (CIAMC), lauded the initiative as a practical model for leadership and conflict management training.

He noted that mediation skills are increasingly becoming essential for today’s managers and administrators who are required to lead diverse teams and resolve workplace challenges effectively.
Dr. Asafo urged administrators and managers across all sectors to pursue mediation training to enhance their ability to manage human and organisational relationships constructively, adding that leaders who can prevent or resolve internal conflicts contribute directly to the stability and growth of their institutions.
He also used the occasion to introduce the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants to participants, most of whom are professionals and leaders in various organisations, encouraging them to consider professional membership and certification to deepen their administrative and management competencies.
In her remarks, Dr. Benedicta Awusi Atiku, Principal of the Dambai College of Education, extolled the importance of mediation in promoting harmony and problem-solving in the education sector. She observed that frequent student unrest and staff-management tensions in educational institutions underscore the need to adopt mediation as a proactive tool for conflict prevention and resolution in schools.

Dr. Atiku emphasized that mediation fosters dialogue and understanding among students, teachers, and administrators, and can play a pivotal role in improving school governance and learning environments across Ghana.

The Mediation Expedition, now in its sixth year, continues to serve as a transformative experiential platform for advancing competence in professional ADR practice, leadership development, and public education on the value of peaceful dispute resolution in Ghana’s business and social space, workplaces, communities and institutions.
