The 5th Mediation Expedition for ADR professionals ended in style at Aburi Gardens in the Eastern Region after three days of intense camping focused on advancing professional mediation skills.
Organized by the Gamey and Gamey ADR Institute and ADR Daily, the annual event brought together ADR practitioners from various sectors as part of the institute’s Professional Executive Master of ADR (PEM.ADR) training.
Supported by Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG), Golden Exotics, Millennium Insurance, and HPW Fresh & Dry, the 2024 expedition aimed to sharpen participants’ ADR skills through practical simulations, community outreach, and networking opportunities, all under the theme “Shaping Sustainable Peaceful Futures Through Quality ADR Practice.”
Participants engaged in a series of role-playing exercises designed to reflect real-world conflict scenarios, allowing them to refine their mediation techniques in a realistic setting.
Led by seasoned facilitators like Austin Gamey, Lizzy-Ann Kwagbedzi, Edmund Mingle, and Felix Bonnie, the ADR trainees applied the knowledge gained over 31 weeks of training, showcasing their ability to mediate complex disputes.
Dr. Bernice Welbeck, Director of Administration and HR at the National Labour Commission, also shared insights on labour dispute management, underscoring ADR’s role in reducing workplace conflicts.
As the expedition concluded, Mr. Gamey encouraged participants to contribute their mediation skills to resolve pressing community disputes, including the Bawku chieftaincy conflict, while Mrs. Kwagbedzi emphasized the need for skilled ADR professionals in Ghana’s fast-growing ADR industry to ensure quality service and build public trust.
The successful event paves the way for participants to graduate as certified ADR practitioners, further bolstering Ghana’s capacity for sustainable dispute resolution.
