The Medical Laboratory Professional Workers’ Union (MELPWU) has announced its 2nd National Quadrennial Delegates Conference (QDC) to be held from November 25 to 28, 2026, in Accra, with nominations now open for members seeking to contest various leadership positions within the Union.
The four-day conference is expected to provide a platform for delegates to deliberate on issues affecting the Union and the medical laboratory profession, while also taking key democratic decisions on the future direction of the organisation.
A major feature of the conference will be the election of national, regional, chapter and facility-level executives.
The Conference is on the theme, “From Foundation to Future: Serving Members, Protecting Rights and Advancing the Welfare of Medical Laboratory Professionals in Ghana.”
According to MELPWU, the theme reflects its commitment to building on the foundation of the Union while strengthening its capacity to protect members’ rights and promote the professional and socio-economic welfare of medical laboratory professionals.
In preparation for the national conference, regional conferences will be organised across the country under the theme: “Building the Future of Medical Laboratory Science in Ghana: Mobilising Stakeholders for Professional Independence.”
The regional conferences will begin held in zones covering all the regions.
In addition to the special features, the Women’s Forum, bringing together all Regional Women’s Commissioners, will be held on November 26 at the UDS Guest House in Accra. On the same day, the National Youth Summit, comprising all Regional Youth Coordinators, will take place at the Ghana Shippers House.
The Union has meanwhile opened nominations for eligible members interested in contesting the various Regional, Chapter/Facility and National Executive positions in the forthcoming elections.
The opening of nominations sets the stage for what is expected to be a significant leadership transition within MELPWU, with members being given the opportunity to participate directly in determining the future leadership and direction of the Union.
MELPWU has urged eligible members who intend to contest to familiarise themselves with the prescribed eligibility requirements and the list of offices available for contest.
The 2026 Quadrennial Delegates Conference comes at a significant period for the medical laboratory profession in Ghana, with issues including professional independence, employment, working conditions, leadership and the recognition of the role of medical laboratory professionals remaining important concerns for the Union and its members.
